POINTERS FROM THE PROS
Fact or Fiction
by Katie Parrish
Fiction: Split ends can be repaired.
The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off! While some
products may temporarily bind the ends this will only last to your
next shampoo.
Fact: Damaged hair tends to grow slower than healthy
hair.
Hair that is damaged or split on the ends will continue to split
until the hair is trimmed and the split ends are removed. So, even
if you are growing your hair longer, regular visits for a trim are a
vital necessity.
Fact: Hair grows faster on different parts of the head.
There is some scientific evidence that the growth rate of hair may
vary on different parts of the head for some people. Usually, the
difference are small and will not effect the appearance.
Fiction: Hair should be washed every day.
While some people benefit from a daily shampoo, others benefit from
a different schedule. The key is finding the right shampoo and
schedule for washing your hair depending on your hair type, texture,
and life style! See a professional
Fiction: Hats cause baldness.
In truth, again, illness, genetics, hormonal changes, and trauma are
to blame. Hair breakage and/or split ends can be caused by wearing
hats depending on the fabric and fit of the hat.
Fact: Smoking effects hair.
Nicotine and cigarette debris can coat the hair causing it to be
dull and brassy. Smokers are also four times more likely to have
gray hair.
